Kingston Escape Rooms

When the Kingston Escape Rooms team approached Know Escape Franchise in 2019, they were in the advanced stages of discussion with The Rotunda, a respected west London centre for entertainment; the plan was to take a defunct restaurant and convert it into Escape Rooms.

This page is about the venue; if you want to book and play the games, go straight to the Kingston Escape Rooms website.

The unit is large, and the direct neighbour is Odeon cinemas; it’s an excellent spot with lots of footfall and customers looking to be entertained. Above the venue is a David Lloyd Heath Club, opposite the branch is Pizza Express, and below is Five Guys serving fast food.

After working through the franchise agreement, the Kingston Escape Rooms team set to work to build the games and make use of the excellent space.

Games

Kingston Escape Rooms opened in January 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic, initially with An Hour to Kill, Hollywood and The Crazy Cat Lady.

The Crazy Cat Lady has been built with two identical sets allowing teams to race against each other in a dual; the game is popular with children’s birthday parties and larger groups.

An Hour to Kill is one of the most extensive sets across the Know Escape estate, able to cope with larger groups.

Soon after opening, Kingston went into lockdown.

During the pandemic, the team moved online, building a virtual game called ‘Angie’s Flower Shop’, which told some of the back stories of Angie, the main character in Rob the Bank.

The venue added the Rob the Bank game, making excellent use of an area within the unit which maximised the gameplay, Rob the Bank is a very active game, and the Kingston team set the space out perfectly.

Reputation

In November 2022, Kingston Escape Rooms became number one on Tripadvisor, and they deserve it; the team worked hard to deliver excellent fun escape rooms, and they demonstrated that it’s possible to open an escape room business in a town with an existing operator and stay ahead when chain brands enter the market.

We’re proud of Kingston Escape Rooms; with lots of competition, they are the busiest venue and smashing it.

Here is a YouTube video showing Kingston Escape Rooms is number 1 on TripAdvisor and Google:

Competition

Kingston Escape Rooms is the second Escape Room to open in Kingston; there was already a ClueHQ franchise operating just outside the city centre.

Since opening, two more escape room companies have moved into town, an Escape Hunt (one of the biggest operators in the world) and a Houdini franchise; despite the completion, Kingston Escape Rooms is number one.

Media

Kingston Escape Rooms was featured at launch in local press and media

It is not uncommon for customers to vlog about their escape room experience, we don’t allow them to film in our rooms, but they often film outside the venue and share their experiences on Youtube and TikTok.

Here is a YouTube video of a team who played Kingston Escape Rooms and reviewed Kingston on an experience review-based Youtube channel:

Future

The venue has taken on another empty restaurant unit and is building new Know Escape games (November 2022).
